Gyokuro is one of Japan's most prestigious types of green tea. Unlike standard green teas like sencha that are grown in full sunlight, gyokuro tea plants are shaded from the sun for about 20–30 days before harvest.

Gyokuro has a rich, sweet, and savory taste with pronounced umami, smooth texture, and a fresh aroma. Its production involves carefully steaming, rolling, and drying the leaves into fine, needle-like shapes. It is regarded as a tea historically enjoyed by Japanese nobility and is considered one of the finest expressions of traditional Japanese tea craftsmanship.
